The three teams delivered strong performances that have placed them at the top of their respective groups, keeping them on course for qualification to the prestigious tournament.

Morocco, in particular, secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Lesotho, with a stoppage-time goal by Brahim Diaz sealing the win.

Meanwhile, DR Congo and Angola also impressed, with DR Congo recording a 2-0 victory over Ethiopia and Angola edging Sudan 2-1 in a closely contested match.

Morocco’s Dramatic Victory Over Lesotho

Morocco’s clash against Lesotho in Agadir was a nail-biter that kept fans on edge until the very last minute. The Atlas Lions, despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, struggled to break down a resilient Lesotho defense. With time running out, it seemed as though Morocco would have to settle for a frustrating draw.

However, Brahim Diaz stepped up in stoppage time to score the winning goal, sending Moroccan fans into celebration and propelling his team to the top of Group B.

This narrow victory marked Morocco’s second consecutive win in the AFCON qualifiers, keeping their 100 percent win record intact.

Coach Walid Regragui praised his team’s perseverance after the match, stating, “We knew Lesotho would be tough to break down, but we kept pushing until the final whistle. This kind of determination is what we need to succeed in the AFCON.”

Morocco now sits at the top of Group B, with six points from two matches. Their next fixtures will be crucial in maintaining their momentum as they aim to secure early qualification for AFCON 2025.

DR Congo’s Clinical Win Over Ethiopia

DR Congo continued their dominant run in Group H with a clinical 2-0 win over Ethiopia in Tanzania. Goals from Theo Bongonda and Fiston Mayele ensured the Leopards maintained their perfect start to the qualifiers, keeping them at the top of the group standings with six points from two games.

The Leopards controlled the tempo from the start, with Bongonda opening the scoring in the 35th minute with a well-taken goal.

Ethiopia struggled to mount a meaningful response, and DR Congo doubled their lead in the second half when Mayele found the back of the net in the 67th minute.

Coach Sebastien Desabre expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, noting, “We played well today, and the boys executed the game plan perfectly. We’re now focused on maintaining this level in the upcoming matches.”

With DR Congo in strong form, they have positioned themselves as clear favorites to top Group H and qualify for the 2025 AFCON.

Angola Edge Sudan to Secure Crucial Win

Angola also continued their winning ways, securing a 2-1 victory over Sudan in Luanda. The match was a tense affair, with both teams displaying attacking intent from the outset.

Angola took the lead early through Randy Nteka, and although Sudan equalized before halftime, Mabululu’s 70th-minute strike sealed the win for Angola.

With this victory, Angola now leads Group F with six points, setting the stage for their upcoming matches as they aim to maintain their unbeaten run in the qualifiers.

After the match, Angola’s coach Pedro Goncalves said, “The boys played with heart and determination. Sudan gave us a tough challenge, but we stayed focused and got the result we needed.”

Senegal’s First Win in Group L

While Morocco, DR Congo, and Angola extended their perfect records, Senegal recorded their first win in Group L. The Lions of Teranga edged out Burundi 1-0, with Ismaila Sarr converting a 71st-minute penalty to secure the three points.

Senegal struggled to break down a well-organized Burundi side but eventually found the breakthrough when Sarr was brought down in the box. The Watford winger calmly slotted the ball into the net from the spot, giving Senegal their first win of the qualifiers.

This victory lifts Senegal into contention in Group L as they aim to build on this result in their upcoming matches.

Ghana’s Struggles Continue With a Draw Against Niger

Ghana, on the other hand, has yet to find their rhythm in the qualifiers, as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Niger in Morocco.

The Black Stars took the lead through Alidu Seidu, who scored just before halftime. However, Niger fought back in the second half, with Oumar Sako equalizing late in the game to deny Ghana their first win of the campaign.

Despite dominating large portions of the match, Ghana was left frustrated by their inability to convert chances into goals. This draw leaves them winless in Group F, and they will need to regroup quickly if they are to turn their fortunes around in the upcoming qualifiers.
