Javier Tebas Slams Real Madrid and Florentino Perez, Calls Them “Crybabies”
La Liga president Javier Tebas has launched a scathing attack on Real Madrid and club president Florentino Perez, accusing them of constantly complaining and pushing conspiracy theories about referees and football governance. His latest comments have sparked controversy in Spanish football, as he openly criticized the leadership at the Santiago Bernabeu and how the club presents itself in public discourse.
Tebas Takes Aim at Real Madrid’s Complaints
For years, Los Blancos has been at the center of Spanish and European football, dominating the scene with their star-studded squad and success in major competitions. However, Tebas argues that their achievements are often overshadowed by what he describes as a “victim mentality” promoted by the club.
“They are always talking about global conspiracies against them. If they win, they claim they have beaten all odds, but if they lose, it’s because of a grand plot against Real Madrid,” Tebas remarked at a Europa Press event.
He further pointed out that Florentino Perez remained silent about the controversial Negreira case, in which Barcelona was allegedly paying referees, despite being a board member of the Spanish Football Federation for eight months after the scandal broke.
“Florentino Perez was on the Federation board until November 23, eight months after the Negreira case became public. He said nothing back then. Now, he suddenly claims Real Madrid is the victim of a corrupt system. To me, that makes no sense,” Tebas added.
A Real Madrid Fan “In Hibernation”
Despite his criticism, Tebas admitted that he has long been a Real Madrid fan. However, he now finds himself disillusioned with the club’s approach.
“I am a Madridista in hibernation. I used to support this club passionately, but now I feel ashamed of what they’ve become,” he stated.
He lamented that Real Madrid has turned into a club of complainers, a stark contrast to their proud history. “Real Madrid was never known for whining. Now, it seems like all they do is cry about conspiracies that do not exist,” he emphasized.

Florentino Perez and the “Oligarch Football” Model
Tebas also did not hold back in his assessment of Florentino Perez’s leadership, accusing him of promoting a model of football that only benefits the wealthy elite.
“Florentino’s football deceives people. It’s football for oligarchs, for the rich. He wants to control everything, including how money is distributed in football,” he said.
He warned that many Real Madrid supporters blindly follow whatever Perez does, instead of questioning whether his decisions truly serve the club’s best interests.
“A part of Real Madrid is making a mistake by worshipping everything Florentino does. They should have an independent opinion instead of simply agreeing with him,” Tebas asserted.
Tebas Remains a Madridista at Heart
Despite his fierce criticism of the club’s current direction, Tebas clarified that he still celebrates their successes.
“I was very happy when Real Madrid won the Champions League. I am a Madridista, but not a Florentinista,” he concluded.
His remarks have reignited debates about the relationship between La Liga and Real Madrid, as well as the ongoing tensions between Tebas and Florentino Perez. With Real Madrid continuing to compete for major trophies, it remains to be seen how the club will respond to Tebas’ accusations and whether these tensions will impact Spanish football in the long run.
