Seventh-heaven Sofapaka deliver devastating blow to Tusker as Kenya Police edge closer to FKFPL title

Sofapaka delivered one of the most stunning performances in FKF Premier League history, thrashing Tusker 7-1 at Dandora Stadium on Sunday afternoon to blow the title race wide open and virtually eliminate the Brewers from contention. At the same time, Kenya Police edged Talanta 1-0 to move within touching distance of their first-ever league title.

Jack Onganya Steals the Show in Historic Sofapaka Victory

In a match that will be remembered for years to come, forward Jack Onganya starred for Sofapaka with a clinical hat-trick, taking his season tally to seven goals and igniting wild celebrations among the home faithful.

Sofapaka, who were coming off a midweek 2-0 defeat against a relegation-threatened side, flipped the script completely. Fueled by the home crowd and tactical brilliance from coach Ezekiel Akwana, Batoto Ba Mungu ripped through a disorganized Tusker backline with ruthless precision.

It took only three minutes for the damage to begin. Edward Omondi raced past a sluggish defence to slot home the opener before Wayne Dalvin Otieno — nicknamed “Messi” by fans — curled in a superb second in the 27th minute to double the lead.

Tusker looked rattled and shell-shocked. Their defensive shape collapsed under the weight of Sofapaka’s relentless attacks. Onganya then took over, tapping in twice — in the 36th and 45th minutes — from pinpoint Omondi assists to give the home side a jaw-dropping 4-0 lead at halftime.

Second-Half Collapse Caps Tusker’s Nightmare

Tusker made multiple changes at the break, but the horror show continued. Just minutes into the second half, Rodgers Kipkemoi calmly slotted home from the penalty spot to make it 5-0, after Tusker conceded yet another soft foul inside the box.

An own goal by Edward Olak gave the Brewers a glimmer of consolation, but it was far too little and far too late. Omondi grabbed his second of the match in the 83rd minute, capping off a brilliant individual performance, before Onganya sealed his hat-trick in style — rifling in a long-range strike off the underside of the crossbar.

Onganya’s celebration — holding up the match ball to the roaring crowd — symbolized not only personal triumph but the team’s dominance on a day when everything clicked.

Tusker’s Title Dreams Crushed

For Tusker and head coach Charles Okere, the defeat is a devastating blow. What was once a promising title campaign has unraveled in brutal fashion. The team has now conceded nine goals in just two matches, and their defensive frailties were ruthlessly exposed again.

Post-match, Okere did not mince words, branding his players “quitters” in a scathing assessment of their lack of fight and discipline.

Captain Charles Momanyi could be seen visibly frustrated on the pitch, gesturing in disbelief as the goals kept pouring in — a visual that perfectly captured Tusker’s collapse.

Kenya Police March Within Reach of History

While Tusker crumbled, Kenya Police seized their moment. Playing under little pressure after their midweek loss to Homeboyz, the Law Enforcers did just enough to collect a crucial 1-0 win over FC Talanta at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

David Simiyu’s 15th-minute strike was all they needed. The forward made the most of a defensive lapse to guide the ball past the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.

It was a professional performance from coach Ettiene Ndayiragije’s side, who now sit firmly at the top of the FKFPL table with two matches to go. The win marks their 17th of the season, and they now need just three points from their final two games to mathematically clinch the title.

A Day of Contrasts: Sofapaka Rise, Tusker Fall

Sunday’s results perfectly illustrated the highs and lows of football. While Sofapaka danced their way to an iconic victory — even celebrating with choreographed routines at the corner flag — Tusker players pointed fingers, slumped shoulders, and trudged off the pitch in despair.

For Sofapaka, the emphatic win provides momentum and belief heading into the final stretch of the season. For Tusker, it marks the probable end of their title challenge, barring a complete collapse from both Kenya Police and Gor Mahia.

As for Kenya Police, the dream is now within grasp. With their nearest challengers faltering, it’s their title to lose. Victory in their next outing would crown a remarkable campaign with their maiden FKF Premier League trophy.
