Gor Mahia Sack Entire Technical Bench to Begin Fresh Rebuild for 2025/26 Season

After missing out on both the FKF Premier League title and the FKF Cup, Gor Mahia have chosen to clean house, removing the entire technical staff and even team security members in an unprecedented move to reclaim their former glory.

This is not just a reshuffle — this is a complete reboot for one of Kenya’s most decorated clubs.

Gor Mahia Sack Entire Technical Bench After Season of Frustration

The club, famously known as K’Ogalo, made the announcement just three days after a painful 2-1 defeat to Nairobi United in the FKF Cup final. That result ended any hope of salvaging a season that already saw them fall behind Kenya Police FC in the league title race.

Coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, assistant Michael Nam, team manager Victor Nyaoro, and all support staff were shown the door in what the club is calling a “mutual separation.” In truth, it’s a reflection of how deep the problems ran behind the scenes.

“Time for a New Chapter” – Club Statement

In a statement released by the club, Gor Mahia said the decision to part ways with the entire technical team was the result of a “comprehensive internal review” of the 2024/25 season. The club admitted that there is a pressing need for change — not just to fix recent failures, but to rebuild operational strength ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

“This decision is part of the club’s broader restructuring process aimed at strengthening its technical and operational capacity in preparation for the upcoming season,” the statement read.

Notably, Off-field issues, including security mishaps and internal divisions, were also cited as contributing factors.

Chaos and Conflict: A Season to Forget

Let’s be honest — 2024/25 was a nightmare for Gor Mahia. Despite having opportunities to win the league, they failed to capitalize as rivals Kenya Police and Tusker FC stumbled late in the campaign. The loss to Nairobi United in the FKF Cup final only added salt to the wound, ending any chance of securing continental football next season.

What followed was public outrage. Fans turned on coach Zico after the cup final, with security having to intervene as tempers flared. These chaotic scenes may have sealed the fate of a technical bench already under fire.

And it wasn’t just the fans. Reports emerged throughout the season alleging that local coaches, including Zico’s staff, undermined former foreign tacticians Leonardo Neiva and Sinisa Mihic, both of whom were dismissed under controversial circumstances. Accusations of division within the squad and sabotage painted a toxic picture that demanded intervention.

Security Team Also Axed After Fan Incidents

In a rare move, the club also let go of members of the team’s security staff. This came after a series of ugly incidents involving a section of the club’s fans during the season. Poor handling of crowd control, especially during heated matches, drew criticism from both the league and supporters alike.

The club’s leadership has acknowledged that professionalism off the pitch must match the passion on it, and cleaning out the security team shows just how serious they are about starting fresh.

According to club insiders, the search for a new technical team is already underway. There are rumours of foreign interest, and some believe that a return to European or South American coaching influence could be on the cards. Others are pushing for a modern, locally-led approach, backed by a more professional structure.

Regardless of who steps in, they will inherit a team still loaded with talent but badly in need of leadership, discipline, and unity.
