Elly Kalekwa Trusts Robert Matano to Reclaim FKF Title for Sofapaka

Robert Matano, renowned for his remarkable ability to inspire football teams to success, is set to lead Sofapaka FC to their second FKF Premier League title. This bold move, confirmed by club president Elly Kalekwa, follows Matano’s recent departure from Tusker FC. Matano, who etched his name in history by winning the Premier League title with Sofapaka in his first attempt in 2009, is back on a one-year contract, bringing renewed hope to the club.

Matano’s return to Sofapaka is seen as a strategic decision to revive the club’s glory days. Since their triumphant 2009 season, Sofapaka has not secured another league title. However, Kalekwa expresses immense confidence in Matano’s capabilities, citing his extensive track record and league experience as key factors in his appointment.

“Robert Matano is very experienced and has a rich history with Sofapaka. Everywhere he has gone, he has left a mark. He started with Sofapaka by gaining promotion to the Premier League and winning the league title in the same year,” Kalekwa stated.

Kalekwa is optimistic that Matano can replicate the success of 2009. “There is a lot of hope going into next season. We are thinking of the title, no doubt about that. With a coach who has experience and forms his own team without interference, I’m confident we can achieve our goals,” he added.

Despite recent struggles, including a close brush with relegation last season, Kalekwa believes Sofapaka’s long history of strong performances indicates their potential to return to the top. “We had never finished below fourth position since we were promoted until 2016. Operating without a shirt sponsor has been tough for us, but we are hoping to land a sponsor which will help us return to where we belong among the top teams,” he concluded.

Sofapaka finished 16th in the 18-team league last season, narrowly escaping relegation by defeating Naivas FC 2-0 on aggregate in the promotion/relegation play-off. This close call has prompted a significant restructuring effort within the club. With Matano at the helm, Sofapaka is determined to reclaim their position among Kenya’s football elite.

The club’s recent struggles have not dampened their spirits. Instead, they have ignited a drive to rebuild and come back stronger. The appointment of Matano is seen as a crucial step in this rebuilding process. His experience and strategic approach are expected to bring stability and renewed vigor to the team.

Kalekwa emphasizes the importance of securing a shirt sponsor to support the club’s ambitions. “Operating without a shirt sponsor has been tough for us. But we are hoping to land a sponsor which will help us for sure to return to where we belong among the top cream teams up there,” he said.

The pursuit of sponsorship is a vital part of Sofapaka’s strategy to ensure financial stability and enhance their competitive edge. With Matano’s leadership and potential sponsorship, the club aims to rebuild its reputation and achieve significant success in the upcoming season.

With the new season approaching, Sofapaka FC is gearing up for a transformative journey under Robert Matano’s guidance. The team’s focus is clear: to reclaim their position at the top of Kenyan football and secure their second FKF Premier League title. Matano’s appointment brings a blend of experience, strategic insight, and a winning mentality that is expected to drive the team towards their goals.

Sofapaka’s fans and supporters are eagerly anticipating the upcoming season, hopeful that Matano’s return will bring a resurgence of success. The club’s commitment to rebuilding and achieving excellence is evident, and the football community is watching closely to see how this journey unfolds.

Robert Matano’s return to Sofapaka FC marks a significant step in the club’s quest for glory. With his proven track record and strategic expertise, Matano is poised to lead Sofapaka to their second FKF Premier League title. As the new season approaches, the anticipation and excitement among fans and supporters are palpable. With the right blend of leadership, sponsorship, and determination, Sofapaka FC is set to make a remarkable comeback in Kenyan football.
