AFC Leopards Strengthen Squad with the Signing of Right-Back Fredrick Alushula
AFC Leopards have made a statement in the mid-season transfer window by securing the signing of Kariobangi Sharks’ right-back Fredrick Alushula on a two-year deal. The highly-rated defender, commonly known as Shula, joins Ingwe on a free transfer, becoming the club’s second signing of the window after goalkeeper James Ssetuba arrived from Kakamega Homeboyz.
The move did not come easy, as AFC Leopards had to fend off interest from their arch-rivals Gor Mahia, who were also keen on acquiring the defender. However, Alushula ultimately chose to join Leopards, adding strength to their defensive options as they push for the FKF Premier League title.
AFC Leopards Confirm Alushula’s Signing
AFC Leopards officially announced Alushula’s arrival via their social media platforms, welcoming the versatile right-back into their squad.
“Right fullback Fredrick Alushula joins AFC Leopards from Football Kenya Premier League side Kariobangi Sharks on a two-year contract,” the club’s statement read in part.
The former Green Commandoes player has already begun training with the team and is expected to be in contention for selection when Leopards face Sofapaka in their midweek clash at the Dandora Stadium.
Alushula to Wear Number 3 Jersey
Alushula will wear the number 3 jersey, previously worn by former captain Washington Munene, who departed in June last year. The young defender has expressed his admiration for Reece James and Kyle Walker, whom he looks up to as role models in his position.
“Alushula, who looks up to Reece James and Kyle Walker as his role models, will don the number 3 shirt. He has already linked up with his new teammates. Everyone at AFC Leopards welcomes Fredrick Alushula to the club,” the club’s statement added.
Alushula’s Ambitions with AFC Leopards
Speaking after completing his move, Alushula shared his excitement and ambition to help AFC Leopards win silverware, including the FKF Premier League title. He acknowledged the competitive nature of the squad, which he believes will push him to work harder and improve as a player.
“I’m happy to join AFC Leopards, and I look forward to winning trophies with the club. I admire the team’s style of play, and looking at the league table, we have a strong chance of winning the FKF Premier League this season. There’s also fierce competition among my new teammates, which will push me to improve as a player,” Alushula said.

Handling Pressure at a Big Club
Alushula also admitted that playing for a big club like AFC Leopards comes with pressure, but he remains confident that by following the coach’s instructions, he can manage expectations and deliver strong performances on the pitch.
“If you do the right thing as a player, there’s very little pressure. I’ll continue to work hard and follow the technical bench’s instructions, which will help me manage the pressure from the fans,” he added.
How Will AFC Leopards Utilize Alushula?
The arrival of Fredrick Alushula gives AFC Leopards more options in defensive and attacking roles. As a speedy right-back, he is also capable of playing as a winger, making him a versatile addition to the squad.
His signing raises tactical questions for coach Tom Juma, as Lewis Bandi, the current right-back, has been in outstanding form this season. One possible adjustment could be moving Bandi into midfield or the left-back position, both of which he is comfortable playing. This would allow Alushula to take over the right-back role, giving Leopards additional defensive flexibility.
AFC Leopards’ Strong Transfer Window
The signing of Alushula marks Ingwes’ second major acquisition in the current transfer window, following the arrival of goalkeeper James Ssetuba from Kakamega Homeboyz. These reinforcements show the club’s determination to strengthen their squad as they chase the league title.
With the Mashemeji Derby against Gor Mahia also approaching, Ingwe will be eager to see Alushula integrate quickly into the squad and make an impact.
The battle for the FKF Premier League crown is heating up, and with new signings like Fredrick Alushula, AFC Leopards have sent a clear message that they are serious contenders this season.
