“My decision to defer studies in order to play football didn’t make sense to anyone in our family,” Ondiek recalled. “Considering that we have more than five doctors and nurses in the family, it was easy for them to assume that I had made the wrong turn in life. But I asked them to give me a year in football, and if things didn’t work out, I would go back to school. Luckily, fortunes were on my side.”

Reflecting on his career, Ondiek cherishes the moments at Gor Mahia, including winning league titles and facing English Premier League side Everton in Merseyside. Scoring the lone goal in a CAF Champions League game against Malawian giants Nyasa Big Bullets in November 2018 remains one of his fondest memories.
In 2021, Ondiek moved to Posta Rangers, where he is set to take on the role of team captain following the departure of senior players. His leadership on and off the pitch was recognized earlier this year when he was confirmed as a permanent employee of the Postal Corporation of Kenya.
