Reigning FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia continued their impressive run under interim manager Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, edging out FC Talanta 3-2 at Dandora Stadium on Wednesday, December 4. The victory marked K’Ogalo’s third successive win, bringing them within five points of league leaders KCB with two games in hand.
Gor Mahia’s First-Half Dominance
The match began with Gor Mahia asserting their dominance early on. A well-traveled contingent of fans in green watched as Sylvester Owino opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Owino capitalized on a parried free-kick from Austin Odhiambo, slotting home after Talanta goalkeeper Robert Ouma failed to clear the danger.
K’Ogalo’s early pressure was relentless, with Christopher Ochieng, Samuel Kapen, and Levin Odhiambo all coming close to scoring in the opening exchanges. Despite Talanta’s defensive efforts, Gor Mahia’s attacking prowess was evident from the start.
However, against the run of play, Talanta found an equalizer in the 22nd minute. Peter Abiola’s precise cross from the right flank was met by Emmanuel Osoro, who headed the ball into the net. Gor Mahia goalkeeper Gad Matthews was caught off position, unable to prevent the goal.
Odhiambo Leads by Example
The equalizer did little to dampen Gor Mahia’s energy. Captain Austin Odhiambo restored their lead in the 36th minute with a stunning goal. Combining brilliantly with Shariff Musa in a one-two play, Odhiambo entered the penalty box and placed a left-footed shot into the bottom corner. It was Odhiambo’s second goal in as many games and his fourth of the season.

Talanta’s Fightback and Missed Opportunities
The second half saw FC Talanta attempt to mount a comeback. Five minutes after the restart, Eric Otieno narrowly missed connecting with a cross from Clinton Machaka, a chance that could have reduced the deficit.
Talanta did, however, find a lifeline in the 55th minute. Enock Morisson conceded a penalty after pulling Otieno during a run into the box. Captain Bernard Odhiambo stepped up and converted the spot-kick, bringing Talanta within a goal of leveling the match.
Despite Talanta’s spirited efforts, Gor Mahia’s control in possession ensured they remained in command. Substitute Gedeon Bendeka missed a clear chance, and Bryson Wangai’s tight-angle attempt went wide. Austin Odhiambo also saw a powerful shot blocked just outside the penalty area.
Gor Mahia’s Resilience Under Zico
Zedekiah Otieno’s tactical adjustments and K’Ogalo’s defensive organization proved decisive as they held firm to secure the win. Gor Mahia’s ability to control the game despite Talanta’s late pressure underscores the team’s resurgence under Zico’s leadership.
The victory not only extends their winning streak but also solidifies their position as strong contenders in the FKF Premier League title race. With two games in hand and a manageable gap to league leaders KCB, Gor Mahia is poised to challenge for yet another championship.
