A Gor Mahia win against Nairobi City Stars on Thursday could see them leapfrog Tusker into second with 56 points, just two behind Police—intensifying the title race.
Kenya Police FC saw their FKF Premier League title dreams take a significant hit on Wednesday afternoon after a surprising 2-1 defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz at the Mumias Sports Complex. The loss came at a crucial moment in the title race and leaves the Law Enforcers vulnerable at the summit with just a few matches left in the season.
Police came into the match leading the league on 58 points and were presented with a golden opportunity to create daylight between themselves and their closest challengers after Tusker FC fell to a 2-0 defeat against FC Talanta earlier in the day. A win would have opened up a three-point cushion. Instead, it was Homeboyz who turned the table and reignited the title drama.
The hosts started with purpose and aggression, pressing high and dictating the tempo from kickoff. Their positive intent paid off early when they earned a penalty in the eighth minute. Moses Shumah stepped up and made no mistake, calmly sending the keeper the wrong way to give Homeboyz an early 1-0 advantage.

To their credit, Police responded swiftly. Just seven minutes after falling behind, striker Mohammed Bajaber capitalized on a defensive mix-up in the Homeboyz box. He was quickest to react to a loose ball and blasted home the equalizer past the helpless goalkeeper. It was a moment of individual sharpness that briefly lifted the visitors.
The first half ended with the teams deadlocked at 1-1. Both sides had chances, but neither was able to find a breakthrough before the break.
However, it didn’t take long after the restart for Homeboyz to retake the lead—and in stunning fashion. Barely two minutes into the second half, former Vihiga United man Ben Saul punished Police again, finishing confidently after a chaotic moment in the Police defense gifted him possession inside the area.
That goal proved to be the winner, as Police never fully recovered. Homeboyz were organized and disciplined, controlling large portions of the second half with clever movement and midfield dominance.
The Mumias Sports Complex has become a real fortress for Francis Baraza’s side, with Wednesday’s result extending their home unbeaten run to 14 matches. That level of consistency has now propelled Homeboyz to fifth place in the standings with 51 points and revived hopes of a surprise top-four finish.
For Police, the pressure is now intense. With just three games to go, their position at the top is under threat. Gor Mahia, currently third with 53 points and a game in hand, play on Thursday and a win would take them level on points with Police, only trailing on goal difference. The Mashemeji Derby looms large on the horizon, and it could become the decisive fixture in this nail-biting title race.
Kenya Police head coach Etienne Ndayiragije, speaking after the match, admitted the title is far from secured. “Right now, it looks like Police have the trophy in their hands, but we haven’t won it yet. Our focus is on taking each game as it comes and securing as many points as possible. We can’t afford to talk about the title just yet. There’s still a lot of football to be played,” he said.

Shabana 2-1 Bidco United
Over at Gusii Stadium, Shabana FC picked up a vital 2-1 win against relegation-threatened Bidco United. The Glamour Boys continued their impressive late-season form, with goals from Austin Odongo and Brian Michira enough to earn all three points.
Clinton Asiago pulled one back for Bidco, but it was too little, too late for the Thika-based side, who now find themselves in deeper trouble. They sit in 17th place with 29 points, just one above Nairobi City Stars at the bottom.
The win lifts Shabana to fourth with 52 points, injecting more life into their late push for a top-four finish. Head coach Peter Okidi praised his players for their resilience, saying, “We knew the importance of this game, and the boys delivered under pressure. We are not out of the title picture yet.”

Mara Sugar 0-0 Bandari
At Awendo Green Stadium, Mara Sugar and Bandari FC played out a goalless draw in a game that offered few clear chances. Both teams lacked the cutting edge in the final third and had to settle for a point that does little to boost either side’s campaign.
Mara Sugar remain midtable, while Bandari’s inconsistent form continues to limit their top-four aspirations.
