Jobe Bellingham has officially joined Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in a high-profile move from Sunderland, following in the footsteps of his older brother Jude Bellingham. The 19-year-old English midfielder has signed a five-year deal with the German club, marking one of the most exciting transfers of the summer.
Dortmund confirmed the deal on Tuesday, with the newly-promoted Premier League side Sunderland announcing that the move represents a club-record sale. While both clubs have kept the financial details private, multiple British outlets report the initial transfer fee to be around €33 million. That figure would make Jobe the second most expensive signing in Dortmund’s history, behind only Ousmane Dembélé, who joined from Rennes in 2016 for €35 million.
Jobe’s move to Germany mirrors the journey taken by his brother Jude, who also left England at a young age to join Dortmund, before securing a blockbuster €103 million switch to Real Madrid in 2023. Now, Jobe is looking to create his own legacy in the famous black and yellow kit.
The young midfielder is set to join Dortmund’s squad at this month’s FIFA Club World Cup, where the club will represent Europe following their incredible run to the 2024 UEFA Champions League final. He will wear the black and yellow shirt for the first time on the global stage, a sign of the club’s trust in his potential and development.

Sunderland’s Farewell
Jobe leaves Sunderland after two impressive seasons at the Stadium of Light. He played a key role in the 2024–25 Championship season, helping the Black Cats finish fourth and eventually seal promotion to the Premier League with a dramatic playoff final victory over Sheffield United.
In a heartfelt farewell message to fans, Jobe expressed gratitude for the support he received during his time at the club.
“It’s time for me to say farewell to all the loyal people of Sunderland, who have powered me through two incredible years in red and white,” he wrote.
“Your support, on so many occasions, has completely blown me away, especially in the times of adversity, which we pulled through together.”
Sunderland have confirmed that a sell-on clause is included in the agreement, meaning the club could benefit financially again if Jobe is sold in the future. With his talent and age, there’s every chance that his value could increase significantly during his time in Germany.
Dortmund’s Midfield Revolution
For Dortmund, the arrival of Jobe signals a continued investment in young talent. The club has built a reputation as one of Europe’s top destinations for developing rising stars, and Jobe now joins a list of elite names who’ve passed through Signal Iduna Park. With Jude having played three brilliant seasons for Dortmund, fans will naturally be excited to see what Jobe can offer.
The midfielder has already represented England at the U21 level and is known for his technical skills, vision, and ability to control the tempo of play. While comparisons with Jude are inevitable, Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl made it clear that Jobe is his own player.
“We’re very excited to welcome Jobe to Dortmund,” Kehl said in a statement. “He’s shown tremendous maturity and talent at Sunderland, and we believe he can take the next step here. We are not bringing in Jude’s brother – we are bringing in Jobe Bellingham, a top talent in his own right.”
Jobe also shared his excitement about the move and the challenge ahead.
“I’m very happy to be a Borussia Dortmund player now and to fight for titles together with this great club,” he said.
“And I’m very happy that I’ll be wearing the black and yellow jersey at the FIFA Club World Cup.”
A New Chapter Begins
The Bellingham name already holds weight in Dortmund, but now a new chapter begins with Jobe’s arrival. Fans will hope he can grow and thrive in the same environment that helped shape his older brother into a global star. With a long contract, a major tournament on the horizon, and the support of one of Europe’s most passionate fanbases, the stage is set for Jobe Bellingham to shine.
