Unstoppable Kabras Sugar Sweep Past Oilers to Clinch Fifth Straight Enterprise Cup

Kabras Sugar RFC once again proved their dominance in Kenyan rugby, sealing their fifth consecutive Enterprise Cup title with a powerful 33-12 victory over Menengai Oilers on Saturday, April 26, 2025. The highly anticipated final was staged at the lively ASK Nakuru Showground, where Kabras confirmed their position as the kings of Kenyan 15s rugby.

By clinching this year’s Enterprise Cup, Kabras not only secured a historic five-peat but also completed a stunning double, having already lifted the Kenya Cup title earlier in the season—both times defeating the Oilers.

Five in a Row: Kabras Make History

The Kakamega-based giants added 2025 to their growing list of Enterprise Cup victories, having already claimed the trophy in 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Their latest triumph places them alongside Kenya’s rugby elite, joining Nondescripts RFC as one of the few clubs to ever achieve a five-peat in the prestigious tournament.

Kabras’ domination extends even further. They have now completed the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup double for four straight years—and impressively, they remained unbeaten through three of those campaigns.

Oilers Fall Short Again

Menengai Oilers entered the final desperate to claim their first-ever Enterprise Cup title and make a real statement in Kenya’s 15s rugby scene. However, just like in the Kenya Cup final, they were once again outclassed by a Kabras side that has perfected the art of big-match rugby.

The Oilers showed spirit, but the gap in class and experience was evident from early on, with Kabras imposing their authority on the game right from the first whistle.

How Kabras Dominated the Final

Kabras set the tone early, earning a penalty in the opening stages. Ntabeni Dukisa, after missing an earlier attempt, slotted the ball through the posts to give Kabras a 3-0 lead.

The Oilers suffered a major setback when key player Jeanson Misoga limped off with a leg injury, forcing head coach Carlos Katywa into an early substitution, bringing on Collins Indeche.

Kabras capitalized on the disruption. Moments before halftime, Walter Okoth raced through the defense to score the first try after an excellent offload from Hillary Odhiambo. Dukisa added the conversion, stretching the lead to 10-0.

Before the break, Alfred Orege crossed over in the corner for Kabras’ second try. Although the conversion missed, Kabras headed into halftime with a strong 15-0 advantage, leaving Oilers with a mountain to climb.

Second Half: Kabras Turn the Screw

After the interval, Kabras kept up the pressure. Another penalty opportunity came, and Dukisa made no mistake, pushing the lead to 18-0.

The Oilers, to their credit, came out fighting. Beldad Ogeta powered over the line, and Timothy Omela converted to bring the score to 18-7, giving Oilers hope of a comeback.

However, any thoughts of an Oilers revival were quickly crushed. Kabras responded almost immediately, with Gabriel Odera finishing off a clever move from Eugene Sifuna to score another try. Dukisa’s boot stretched the margin again.

Minutes later, Griffin Chao added to the Oilers’ misery, diving over for yet another Kabras try. Although the conversion was missed, the scoreboard now read 30-7 in favor of Kabras.

The Oilers managed to grab a consolation try through Samuel Ovwamu, but without the conversion, it only slightly closed the gap to 30-12.

Kabras had the final say. Dukisa slotted one more penalty to cap off a clinical and dominant display, closing the match at 33-12 and sparking celebrations among the Kabras faithful.

The Sugarmen’s Dynasty Continues

This victory reaffirms Kabras Sugar’s status as Kenya’s most dominant rugby side of the current era. Their consistency, discipline, and depth across the squad have made them almost untouchable at the domestic level.

For the Oilers, the defeat will be a bitter pill to swallow, but they can take heart in their journey to the final and the experience gained. Meanwhile, Kabras continue to set the standard, rewriting the history books with every passing season.
