FEASSSA 2025: Kawempe Muslim sink Arch-Bishop Njenga to book all-Ugandan girls’ final

The 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games have delivered yet another thrilling football encounter as Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Secondary School knocked out Kenya’s Arch-Bishop Njenga Girls Secondary School to storm into the final. The result means Uganda is now assured of gold in the girls’ football category, with an all-Ugandan final set between Kawempe Muslim and St Noa Girls School Zana.

On Wednesday, 20 August, the outer field at Kakamega High School was filled with excitement and tension as Kawempe Muslim came from behind twice to claim a dramatic 4-2 victory. The spotlight was firmly on Kawempe’s captain, Agnes Nabukenya, who scored all four goals for her side in what will go down as one of the standout performances of the tournament.

Kawempe’s Road to the Final

Arch-Bishop Njenga started the game strongly, taking the lead in the 10th minute through Brenda Nekesa, sending the Kenyan fans into wild celebrations. But their joy was short-lived as Nabukenya equalized 10 minutes later, ensuring the teams went into halftime level at 1-1.

The second half mirrored the drama of the first. Arch-Bishop Njenga regained their lead in the 54th minute when Hilder Natecho struck, seemingly putting the Kenyan girls back in control. However, Nabukenya, leading by example, responded just two minutes later with a quick equalizer, swinging momentum back in Uganda’s favor.

With confidence soaring, Nabukenya completed her hat-trick in the 60th minute, a goal that silenced the Kenyan supporters and inspired Kawempe Muslim to push harder. She sealed the victory deep into added time with her fourth goal, capping off a captain’s performance that will live long in memory.

Speaking after the match, Nabukenya praised her teammates for their resilience and composure under pressure. “We worked together and believed in ourselves. Even after trailing twice, we stayed focused and kept pushing for the result. Now, our eyes are on the final,” she said.

St Noa Girls Edge Amus College

In the other semi-final clash, fellow Ugandan side St Noa Girls School Zana secured their ticket to the final with a narrow 1-0 victory over Amus College School. The match was decided by a superbly taken free-kick from Sumaya Nalumu, who showed composure and precision in front of goal.

Despite Amus College’s best efforts to find an equalizer, St Noa held firm defensively, ensuring they joined Kawempe Muslim in what promises to be a thrilling all-Ugandan showdown.

Kenyan Journey Ends, But Not Without Pride

For Arch-Bishop Njenga, the semi-final exit marks the end of their journey in this year’s FEASSSA Games. However, their resilience and determination throughout the tournament will not be forgotten. The girls showed great fighting spirit, pushing one of Uganda’s strongest sides to the limit.

The team will now face Amus College School in the bronze medal playoff, where they will be looking to end their campaign on a high note. Though disappointed, Arch-Bishop Njenga’s journey has inspired many, proving once again why Kenya remains a force to reckon with in regional schools’ football.

Uganda Assured of Gold

With both finalists hailing from Uganda, the country is already guaranteed gold in the girls’ football category. Whether Kawempe Muslim’s attacking brilliance or St Noa Girls’ tactical discipline shines through in the final, Uganda’s dominance in this year’s FEASSSA girls’ football is undisputed.

The 2025 FEASSSA Games, currently being hosted in Kakamega County, Kenya, bring together top secondary schools from across East Africa in various sports. Apart from football, the competition also features netball, volleyball, basketball, rugby, hockey, handball, athletics, tennis, swimming, table tennis, badminton, goalball, chess, scrabble, cricket, lacrosse, beach volleyball, beach soccer, and even DanceSport.

With just a day to go before the grand finale on Friday, 22 August, the atmosphere is building as fans eagerly await the crowning of champions. Kawempe Muslim will be eyeing yet another historic triumph, while St Noa Girls will be determined to write their own piece of history.
