Vincent Kompany Urges Bayern to Focus on Leipzig Test, Not Title Celebrations
Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has warned his players to forget about celebrations and focus fully on the challenge of RB Leipzig as the Bavarian giants close in on a record-extending 34th Bundesliga title. With just three games left in the season, Bayern hold an eight-point lead over Bayer Leverkusen and could wrap up the title on Saturday with a win in Leipzig — or by simply matching Leverkusen’s result on Sunday.
Speaking ahead of the pivotal clash, Kompany made it clear that the focus must remain on football, not festivities. “We want to win tomorrow and be champions. That’d be nice. But tomorrow is a final for us. Hopefully we do it,” the Belgian said during Friday’s pre-match press conference.
Kompany, in his debut season at the helm of the German powerhouse, maintained a calm and composed tone despite the magnitude of the occasion. “We’re preparing as normal for Leipzig. I’m not preparing any celebrations. I’m preparing for the game,” he insisted.
RB Leipzig, currently fifth in the standings and pushing for Champions League qualification, will not make life easy for Bayern. “They have a lot of talent and quality, lots of good young players. They lost in Frankfurt, so I think they’ll now play with full energy again, look to attack,” Kompany noted.
The former Manchester City captain, known for his tactical discipline and no-nonsense approach, is wary of teams raising their game against Bayern. “Teams make radical decisions against Bayern. I think we will get the best version of Leipzig as an opponent. It will be tough. We need to prepare for the game, not for a party,” he reiterated.
One of the biggest storylines ahead of the match is the absence of star striker Harry Kane, who is suspended for the tie. Despite missing the game, the England captain is expected to travel with the team to Leipzig as a show of unity. “Harry is one of our best players mentally. He knows his moment is coming. He’s exuding confidence,” said Kompany.
Kane has been nothing short of sensational in his first season with Bayern, scoring 36 goals and providing 12 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions. His contributions have been vital in Bayern’s dominant domestic campaign, even as their European hopes were dashed earlier in the season.
“Maybe some guys will come with us to Leipzig… Harry probably won’t pass up the opportunity to come,” Kompany said, suggesting the striker’s leadership and presence could still play a crucial role off the pitch.

Despite the absence of their top scorer, Bayern still have plenty of firepower to get the job done. The likes of Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala, and Serge Gnabry are all expected to step up as Bayern aim to seal the title with a flourish.
For Kompany, this weekend offers the chance to cap off a successful first campaign in charge with a trophy — but he remains laser-focused on the job at hand. The message is clear: no distractions, no champagne, just three points.
With the Bundesliga crown within reach, Bayern’s professionalism, depth, and experience could once again prove decisive. But as Kompany has emphasized, Leipzig will provide a stern test — and nothing is being taken for granted at Säbener Straße.
