Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term One Games will hit fever pitch on Friday when usual suspects clash in exciting semi-final line-ups at Shanzu Teachers College and Shimo La Tewa High School in Mombasa

The race for national school glory is heating up as the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term One National Games moved into the knockout stages following an action-packed Day Three that concluded all group stage matches.

From dramatic finishes in hockey to emphatic basketball and handball victories, the stage is now set for high-stakes semi-final showdowns across multiple disciplines.

Girls’ Basketball: Kaya Tiwi and Butere Lead the Charge

Powerhouse Kaya Tiwi continued their dominant form, extending their unbeaten streak with a convincing 86-50 win over Olympic High. Their high-intensity play and scoring depth have made them clear title contenders.

Ikutha Girls made headlines by posting the highest team score of the tournament so far, crushing Hon. DM Amin 128-6 in a one-sided affair. Elsewhere, St. Joseph’s Kitale battled past Mpesa Academy with a 77-54 win, while Butere proved too strong for Asumbi, easing to a 63-36 victory.

Boys’ Basketball: Dagoretti and Laiser Hill Survive Close Calls

The boys’ basketball action was equally thrilling. Dagoretti High School, showing consistency and composure, eliminated Friends School Kamusinga with an 87-71 victory. Laiser Hill had to dig deep to edge out Sawagongo 71-66 in a nail-biting clash.

Lukenya were in cruise control, dispatching Wajir High 87-55, while Dr. Aggrey secured their spot with a 66-54 win over Pioneer School.

Girls’ Handball: Moi Kamusinga Run Riot

St. Joseph’s Kitale also continued their perfect campaign, beating Moi Forces Academy 35-22. Kadika secured a 31-21 win over Thika Girls, and Dagoretti Mixed pulled off an impressive 33-21 upset over Kyeni Girls.

Boys’ Handball: Tight Battles Set Up Tense Semis

In the boys’ handball category, Kamito sealed their spot with a hard-fought 27-22 win over Jaribuni. Manyatta put on a show against Sabunley, winning comfortably by 48-14, while Highway edged out Matiliku 20-17 in a closely contested battle. Kimilili rounded out the last four with a 36-17 win over Makuyu.

Hockey: St. Charles Lwanga Shock St. Anthony’s

Arguably the surprise of the day came on the hockey pitch, where St. Charles Lwanga pulled off a stunning 1-0 win over Pool A leaders and perennial favourites St. Anthony’s Boys. It was a statement result that sets the tone for a thrilling knockout phase.

Musingu High beat Mpesa Academy 2-1 to top their pool, while Hospital Hill and Ringa couldn’t be separated in a 0-0 stalemate. Matiliku and Mnyezeni also drew 0-0 in a tight affair.

In the girls’ matches, Tigoi Girls proved their strength with a dominant 4-0 win over Mpesa Academy. Ng’iya Girls downed St. John’s Kaloleni 3-0, while St. Joseph’s Kitale edged past Mwiki 1-0. AIC Girls narrowly beat St. Charles Lwanga 2-1.

Rugby fans are also in for a treat as the top four schools prepare to clash in the semi-finals. All Saints Embu, known for their physical play, will face Kisii School, while Vihiga High, another strong contender, meet Upper Hill School in what is expected to be a bruising affair.
