The Foxes had entered the EFL Cup tie as clear favorites, but Walsall proved to be a tough nut to crack. Despite dominating possession, Leicester could only muster two shots on target, both of which came in the second half.

Walsall’s defensive organization frustrated the visitors, and Leicester found it difficult to create any real scoring opportunities.

the club’s  lineup, which featured a mixture of experienced players and fringe squad members, lacked the cutting edge required to break down Walsall’s backline.

Ricardo Pereira and Conor Coady tried to spark moments of creativity, but they found themselves stifled by the League Two side’s compact shape.

For much of the game, it looked like Walsall might hold out for an upset, with the possibility of a penalty shootout looming large. Leicester, who had struggled to find rhythm in their Premier League campaign, looked equally disjointed in this EFL Cup tie.

Ward saved all three of Walsall’s penalties, diving in the right direction each time to deny the League Two outfit. His anticipation and agility in the shootout were nothing short of remarkable, earning him the plaudits of his teammates and fans alike.

For Leicester fans, the match was a rollercoaster of emotions. While many had anticipated a comfortable win against lower-league opposition, the reality of the game was far more stressful. Walsall’s resilience, combined with Leicester’s inability to find the back of the net in regular time, left supporters on edge throughout the contest.

The frustration reached its peak when a fan took matters into his own hands, storming the pitch to confront manager Steve Cooper. The incident highlighted the growing tensions among the fanbase, who are eager for the team to rediscover its form following their return to the Premier League.

However, the relief was palpable once the penalties were over, with Ward’s saves providing a much-needed reprieve. Despite the struggles in open play, Leicester’s progression in the EFL Cup offers a glimmer of hope as they continue their search for consistency this season.

Aston Villa Advance to the Next Round

Elsewhere in the EFL Cup, Aston Villa secured their place in the next round with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers.

Jhon Duran, who has been in fine form recently, added Villa’s second from the penalty spot after being brought down in the box by Declan Skura.

Despite Wycombe pulling one back through substitute Richard Kone, Aston Villa held firm to avoid a fourth consecutive EFL Cup third-round exit. The victory will be a significant boost for Villa as they aim to make a deep run in the competition this season.
