Bidco and Posta dodged relegation by the slimmest of margins, sharing similar points with the demoted Talanta and City Stars.
The final day of the 2024–25 FKF Premier League season delivered heartbreak and narrow escapes as Nairobi City Stars and FC Talanta were officially relegated to the National Super League (NSL), ending their stay in Kenya’s top-flight division. In contrast, Posta Rangers and Bidco United barely survived the drop, thanks to better goal difference and last-day results.
The fall of City Stars marks the end of a difficult chapter for the Kawangware-based side. Their goalless draw against Mathare United on Sunday proved costly, as it left them just one point short of safety. A single goal in that match could have made the difference — instead, it sealed their fate.
This marks a painful return to the second-tier for a club that, just five years ago, celebrated its promotion to the top flight during the pandemic-hit 2019–20 season. Then led by Bosnian coach Sanjin Alagić, City Stars rejoined the elite after five long seasons in the NSL. Their comeback was promising, with strong performances in their first season back, but budget cuts and inconsistency gradually took a toll.
Though the team managed a few flashes of resurgence, the 2024–25 season proved too much to survive. Their final-day draw left them level on points with Posta Rangers, but an inferior goal difference sent them packing.
Joining City Stars in the relegation zone is FC Talanta, whose narrow 1-0 loss to Murang’a Seal sealed their fate. Victor Haki’s lone goal for Seal on the final day confirmed Talanta’s drop to the second tier, ending their three-season run in the Premier League.
Since their promotion in the 2021–22 campaign, Talanta have consistently finished in the bottom half of the table. They placed 12th in their debut season, dropped to 14th the following year, and managed just 15th last season. This year’s relegation brings a sobering conclusion for the Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS)-sponsored club.
In contrast, Posta Rangers live to fight another day — but only just. The Mailmen drew 1-1 with Bandari on the final day to finish third from bottom with 35 points. Though their points tally matched City Stars and Talanta, Posta’s superior goal difference ensured they avoided direct relegation.
However, survival isn’t guaranteed yet. Posta Rangers must now face Naivas FC — a second-tier side — in a promotion/relegation playoff to determine who earns a spot in next season’s Premier League. It will be their second such battle in recent memory. They survived a similar playoff in the 2018–19 season by beating Nairobi Stima 2-1 on aggregate.
Bidco United also survived by the slimmest of margins. Needing a win to secure safety, they beat Sofapaka 2-1 at Ruaraka Grounds in a do-or-die clash. That victory kept them in the top flight for another season, avoiding the playoff scenario altogether.

At the other end of the table, it was all celebration for Kenya Police FC, who were officially crowned champions. Police, already confirmed winners heading into the final matchday, drew 1-1 with Gor Mahia at Ulinzi Sports Complex in their coronation game.
Shariff Musa gave Gor an early lead in the 24th minute, but David Okoth equalized for Police in the 56th minute to preserve the draw. The champions were treated to a guard of honour from Gor Mahia before kickoff. Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the club patron, personally handed the trophy to Police captain David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng in a symbolic moment of the club’s triumph.

Elsewhere across the league, the Golden Boot race came to a close with Kakamega Homeboyz striker Moses Shumah claiming the crown. Despite being kept quiet in a goalless draw against Tusker, his 17 goals were enough to finish top of the scoring charts.
Other notable results from the final round included a 0-0 draw between AFC Leopards and KCB, and a 1-1 stalemate between Shabana and Ulinzi Stars. Kariobangi Sharks wrapped up their season with a dominant 4-1 win over Mara Sugar, ensuring a strong finish to their campaign.
As the curtain falls on an eventful FKF Premier League season, the headlines are defined by champions Police FC, the survival of Bidco and Posta, and the relegation of two once-promising sides — Nairobi City Stars and FC Talanta — who must now regroup in the unforgiving landscape of the National Super League.
