Strathmore Leos have successfully defended their Prinsloo 7s crown after overpowering rivals KCB Rugby 24-7 in a rain-soaked final at Nakuru Athletic Club on Sunday, August 3, 2025. Despite the match ending prematurely due to heavy downpour, the Leos’ commanding first-half display sealed the win and marked back-to-back titles in the National 7s Circuit.
The much-anticipated rematch between two of Kenya’s top rugby sides kicked off with fiery intensity as the Madaraka-based side looked to avenge last weekend’s narrow 15-14 loss to KCB in the Driftwood 7s final. From the onset, Strathmore Leos were the hungrier side, charging forward with crisp passes, tight formations, and ruthless execution.
Victor Mola was first on the scoresheet, slicing through the KCB defense with a blistering run that had fans on their feet. His momentum lifted the entire squad, and it wasn’t long before Stanslaus Shikoli bulldozed past defenders to notch the second try.
Although KCB responded through Bob Muhati with a well-worked try, Strathmore’s rhythm remained unbroken. Mola, in sublime form, added a second try just before halftime, completing a brace and asserting his dominance on the final. Barnabas Owino capped off the electrifying half with a fourth try, giving Strathmore a 24-7 lead at the break.
By then, the heavens had opened. Torrential rain flooded the pitch, making play nearly impossible. Despite KCB’s attempts to mount a comeback early in the second half — including a close call by Samuel Asati who lost control while grounding the ball — the worsening conditions forced officials to halt the match with three minutes remaining. Given the dominant scoreline, the title was awarded to Strathmore.
The result not only handed Leos the Prinsloo title for the second straight year but also avenged their earlier defeat to KCB, restoring their pride and reaffirming their status as the team to beat on the circuit.
