The young defender, who has already made a name for himself both in Kenya and Spain, is set to continue his rapid development in European football, a journey that has captivated fans and pundits alike.

A Remarkable Journey

Wanjala’s journey to this point has been nothing short of extraordinary. He first gained national attention in Kenya through his outstanding performances at St Anthony’s Boys Kitale, a school renowned for producing top footballing talent. In 2023, Wanjala played a pivotal role in helping his school secure the National Secondary School Games football title, a victory that put him firmly on the radar of scouts and coaches.

His performances, alongside those of his teammates Aldrine Kibet and Allan Kasavuli, caught the eye of the Nastic Soccer Academy in Spain. The trio made the move to Europe, where they continued to develop their skills in a more competitive environment. For Wanjala, this was the beginning of his European adventure, one that has seen him grow both as a player and as a person.

In Spain, Wanjala quickly adapted to the new challenges presented by European football. His time at the Nastic Soccer Academy proved to be a formative experience, and it wasn’t long before he made a significant impact. In November 2023, Wanjala played a crucial role in leading Kenya to the final of the CECAFA U18 tournament held in Kisumu. His performances during the tournament further solidified his reputation as one of Kenya’s most promising young talents.

Professional Debut and Continued Development

Wanjala’s consistent displays earned him a professional contract with Gimnastic Tarragona’s U19 team in January of the following year. Signing with a club of Gimnastic’s stature was a huge step forward in his career, and Wanjala quickly embraced the opportunity. His hard work and dedication paid off when he made his professional debut in March, coming on as a substitute in a match against Barcelona’s junior team.

Although Gimnastic Tarragona lost the match 4-2, Wanjala’s debut was a significant milestone in his career. Playing against one of the most prestigious academies in the world was an invaluable experience, and it gave Wanjala a taste of the high standards required to succeed at the top level. The young defender’s performance in that match drew praise from his coaches, who were impressed by his composure and ability to handle the pressure of such a big occasion.

Earlier this year, Wanjala was called up to the Kenya U20 national team for the Four-Nations tournament in Malawi. However, due to his commitments with Gimnastic Tarragona, he was unable to honor the call-up. Despite this setback, Wanjala continued to represent his country later in the year at the COSAFA tournament in July. Though Kenya exited the tournament at the group stage, Wanjala was one of the standout performers, showcasing his talent on the international stage once again.
