Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has launched a scathing critique of Marcus Rashford, accusing the out-of-favour forward of letting his teammates down and urging that he be “banished” from the dressing room.
Rashford, 27, has not featured for United since December 12, with new manager Rúben Amorim consistently overlooking him. The England international has only made the bench once under Amorim but was not called upon to play.
Amorim recently took a dig at Rashford’s attitude, controversially stating that he would rather include 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital in his squad than the struggling forward.

Scholes: Rashford Setting a Poor Example
Scholes, who won 11 Premier League titles with United, did not hold back during The Overlap Fan Debate, where he criticized Rashford’s approach.
“I think Marcus has let a lot of people down with his attitude, and I think that’s what the manager is trying to say,” Scholes remarked.
“You think of the young players coming through the team, think of (Alejandro) Garnacho – they’re looking up to people like Marcus now. He’s 27 years old, and he’s clearly not training properly.”
Scholes drew parallels to his own career, recalling how Sir Alex Ferguson made it clear that letting down teammates was unacceptable.
“I remember years ago when I told the manager I didn’t want to play in an Arsenal game… he told me, ‘The worst thing you did is let your teammates down.’ That really stuck with me.”
He believes Rashford is making the same mistake:
“OK, he’s not refusing to play, but the way he’s behaving and training, he’s effectively saying he doesn’t want to be involved. That kind of behavior shouldn’t be tolerated.”
Scholes went even further, calling for Rashford’s complete removal from the squad.
“If he’s in and around that dressing room and young players are seeing that as an example, the sooner he’s gone, the better.”

“I think Marcus has let a lot of people down really, with his attitude, and I think that’s what the manager is trying to say — he should be banished from the dressing room really.”

Rashford’s Future Uncertain
Scholes’ remarks align with those of former United defender Rio Ferdinand, who recently stated on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast that there was “no way back” for Rashford following Amorim’s criticism.
Rashford himself hinted at a departure in December, stating he was ready for a “new challenge”, just two days after being omitted from the squad for the Manchester derby.
Several top European clubs, including Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan, have been linked with the forward during the January transfer window. However, a potential move is complicated by his massive £300,000-a-week ($374,000) salary, which runs until 2028.
With Amorim showing no signs of reintegrating Rashford into the squad, his days at Old Trafford appear to be numbered.
